Handel: Messiah, January 2019
More than 275 years have passed since the first performance of Messiah on April 13, 1742 in Dublin. It was received by a rapturous audience and its popularity continues unabated to this day. Messiah remains at the heart of musical life, with its vibrant choruses – including the Hallelujah Chorus - and poignant arias, in which I know my redeemer liveth and The trumpet shall sound are best known.
This concert, with Guildford Choral, conductor Jonathan Willcocks and Canzona - one of England’s leading ensembles specialising in performing Baroque music on period instruments - promises to bring you a truly uplifting evening of sublime music-making.
